Going to Vermont

Christmas is over (finally), so now everyone's going to go about their merry way once again, until New Years that is. Meanwhile, I'll be traveling up to Vermont for a couple of days, so I won't be posting for a while. I made a mixtape for the roadtrip up there, and thought I'd post it here for you to listen to in the meantime. It's more mellow and less electronic than my first two mixtapes, but personally, I think it's overall better. Download the mixtape, check out the track list, you know the deal.

He's a regular santa. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but so far, My Girls is my favorite track. I'll probably be posting a review soon, but not within the week. TreeWax

Found one last Christmas vid I just had to share with you. The song's A Fifth Beethoven by Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band, remixed by Soulwax. What could be better you say? Another Soulwax remix? Well, it's made by the guys over at Klip Collective. I don't know if you know them, but they're pretty awesome.

Kudos to WeLikeIt.Indie.

This is the latest ad from the great guys over at the Reality Coalition. Pretty funny, but true.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas!

Merry Christmas from Japan

This is a little stocking stuffer I thought I'd post from DJ Muranao of the electro unit, I'm So Looking You. It's a cover of WHAM's Last Christmas and a truly great gift from the gal DJ all the way over in Nagoya, Japan. A beautifully woven mass of Christmas bells, techno kits, and radiating synthesizers, the track's enough to wham the Christmas spirit into any robot's heart. Hope you enjoy it, and once again, merry Christmas... from Japan!

Banjo Or Freakout - Silent Night

Once again, Banjo Or Freakout creates another haunting, atmospheric masterpiece, with his inter-dimensional rendition of Silent Night, a Christmas favorite. If you want more Banjo, you can preorder the Mr No/Someone Great 7" here. However, if you're looking for any more Christmas-oriented tunes, just check out my indie Xmas playlist here, and I'll be posting if I find any more Christmas tracks to rock your stockings. Until then, merry Christmas!

DP Christmas Playlist

Well my friends, it's that time of year again - Christmas is only three days away! Yes, pretty soon the big guy in the red suit will be climbing down our chimneys and placing gifts under our pink, aluminum Christmas tree. Pretty soon our relatives, and maybe even you, will be chugging down egg nog and hot cocoa by the gallon. Pretty soon you'll be sitting in the living room, watching the yule log on channel 11, and wandering if there is any other music you could be listening to besides White Christmas sung by Bing Crosby, which you have heard an estimated 37 times in the past two years. Of course, the Cocteau Twins, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald are classics, but for years, you have secretly longed for something better. Anything with some beat, some guitar, or some synth. Anything mellow, techno, or just plain indie. Well, you go to your computer, and google Danish Poet Blog. You look at their latest post, and find a cool, hip, indie Christmas playlist that rocks your socks off! You quickly burn the tracks onto a CD and eject your used copy of Christmas Oldies: Vol. 4 (you know, the one with Nat King Cole?) replacing it with your still warm CD filled with fresh new tracks. You turn up the volume on your stereo to a woppin' 9.5 and mute the TV. After settling down with a warm mug of hot cocoa, just as Coldplay's cover of  Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, comes on, you come to the realization that Christmas can be indie, you just have to believe.

So here's a small playlist I cooked up in order to wish you a merry indie Christmas. It includes the Raveonettes track everyone's been raving about and a beautiful cover of Winter Wonderland by Goldfrapp. The music video on the bottom is for the Micky P Kerr track, Credit Crunch Christmas, a comical, low-budget view on our tanked economy during this joyous time of year.

Send Us Your Mixtapes!

That's right folks! I'm always looking for new music, so whether it's your mix, your remix, your mixtape, or your very own music, just send it to me at DANISHPOET@YAHOO.COM. I'll listen to it and if I like it (which I'm sure I will), I'll do a post on it. I'd love it if you sent me your stuff, and if I really really really love it, I'll keep an eye on you and post any other new music you come up with. Here's a 10 minute minimix I actually made just a couple of days ago called The Herculean Mixtape. I mainly put it together just to help cheer me up during these cold, dreary days, and I hope it does the same for you. Check out the track lists, then download the mixtapes. Cheers!

Music Video Update: Running w/ the Beast

This is the music video for zZz's Running with the Beast, the title track off their latest album. Directed and concepted by Roel Wouters, this is one of those artistic music vids that only come around once in a while, with a track by another one of those obscure (and in this case dutch), indie rock bands. Well, this is one to be remembered - two colored cocks printing their fight on a sheet of paper.

Hot Chip and Pete Cover Cape Cod

Well who saw this one coming? If you've ever heard of the Vampire Weekend song Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, you'll probably remember the lyrics "feels so unnatural, Peter Gabriel..." and then there's a guitar segment and some more conga drums. Now that Banjo Or Freakout's already covered the track, what could be more perfect the a cover of the tune done by the person it's singing about - Peter Gabriel. Peter Gabriel and Hot Chip that is. Originally recorded over the summer in Peter Gabriel's Real World studios, the Cape Cod... cover is a perfect reflection of what Hot Chip does best - give you the sense of what the song's all about, while adding some really cool beats. However, I've got to say, I'm not all that crazy about how Pete's voice fits in with the synths and claps. Judge for yourself - download the track.

DP on the HM Continued

If you recall a couple of posts ago, I was talking about how Danish Poet Blog wasn't listed as one of the blogs on The Hype Machine's music blog list. Hypem, an MP3 music blog resource, is one of the more popular blogging networks, that not only helps popularize blogs with MP3 links, but also shares fantastic tracks over the internet. Well, I had asked all of my faithful readers to please enter in my blog for submission of the list, and if that didn't work, to please write them a letter (which they could copy and paste off of my website). As you can guess it meant a lot to me, so you can possibly imagine how thrilled I am to tell you that it worked! DP's now listed! Thank you so much, everyone, for your thoughtful contribution. I am forever in your debt. Now, check out my blog (as listed on Hypem) in all its beautiful glory. Oh, and as a proper thank you, I put up the currently five most popular tracks listed on Hypem for free download. Triple CHEERS!

Music Video Update: Higher State

UK electro duo South Central just released a remake of the Josh Wink classic, Higher State of Consciousness. I've got the download after the jump, along with the music video, a mixture of ominous shadows and lights cast onto a montage of newspapers. Sound weird? Well, the music fits it perfectly. Take a look!

Cool Tunes Tuesday: Kings of Leon

I got three pretty wicked remixes for some Kings of Leon tracks I thought I'd put up for Cool Tunes Tuesday. The first track's the Kings' biggest hit, Sex On Fire (Tenzin Remix) (someone was bound to come out with a dance remix to that one). The second track's CSS's edit of The Bucket, and the third track is a remix of another Kings of Leon hit, Knocked Up (my personal favorite). Only this time, you've Lykke Li and The Rodeo thrown into the mix. Figure that one out.

Cut Copy vs. The Golden Filter

In case you don't remember, a while back I posted about Hercules & Love Affair's fantastic disco remix of a Cut Copy track, Far Away. As I mentioned in that post, other artists including The Golden Filter, would be remixing the track. Well, I never lie. Here's the remix along with a Solid Gold video teaser.

Why isn't DP on the HM?

The Hype Machine, or "Hypem", is a fantastic website that skillfully categorizes and lists all free music downloads posted on almost every music blog there is. It creates widgets, organizes posts by most popular and recent, and gives links to the downloadable track, EP, or album.

However, I was scrolling through Hypem's list of music blogs the other day on their website, and found that not only was I not listed, but nor were my fellow bloggers Chalky and Greg, over at TLS and MDR (yeah, I know, too many acronyms). Anywho, Hypem's a brilliant way to popularize your blog, and I would deeply appreciate it if all my readers here submitted a form to Hypem, asking for Danish Poet Blog to be included on their blog list. Just enter my url (http://danishpoetblog.blogspot.com/) in the box here. If it says something like, "Danish Poet Blog has been reviewed and currently is not included in the Hype Machine." Then I would be eternally grateful if you were to send a message to Hypem requesting Danish Poet on the blog list. You can go here, and simply cut and copy what I already have written below:

Dear Hypem,

I have found to my surprise that the music blog Danish Poet Blog (http://danishpoetblog.blogspot.com/) is not included on your blog list. I have tried to recommend the blog, but for some reason, you will not allow it on your site. I would (as I'm sure would many) deeply appreciate it if you were to add this blog to your blog list. If you still continue refuse to, please explain why.

Love, [insert name here]

If you were to actually submit this form I would love you forever. Cheers! Until then, here are some downloads:

Andrew Bird Releases Album Art

Andrew Bird just released the cover art for his 5th studio album Noble Beasts. It'll be jumping off the shelves January 20, the same date as Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillion, yay! Anywho, I've got the album art below, thanks to Stereogum. The first pic (the one with the sunny field and the tree) is the standard edition, while the second cover (the one with Aesop fable style watercolor) is the special edition, with a bonus instrumental track titled Useless Creatures. Andrew Bird fans, feast your eyes.

Eksi Ekso

Tom Martin from over at AAM emailed me recently about a Boston sextet called Eksi Ekso. I'd never heard of them before, but when I listened to some of their tracks I was pretty surprised. I didn't know bands like this still existed. Bands with total instrumental and lyrical passion, are few at best, and Eksi Ekso is one of them. The newly formed brainchild of The Burning Paris and On Fire, Eksi Ekso has the experience of a decades old group, and the finesse of a hip rock band, with obvious influences ranging from Black Sabbath to Can. Overall, Eksi Ekso could be described as an musically intuitive, creative force, with a bright future in their midst; a gem found in a pile of ashes. So far, they've come out with a fantastic album on disc and vinyl, titled I Am Your Bastard Wings. MP3s after the jump.

Track List:
01 The Wintering
02 O' God, They've Frozen
03 Killing Texas
04 The Choir Will Always Sing
05 Albatross
06 I Though You Died Last Time
07 Nitnb
08 Mavri
09 The Gallows
10 Just Leave
11 (Spouse Of) The Blind Hunter
12 Russian Excuse

You can download the album via iTunes, or order it on Amazon, but until then, here are three of the best songs off the album. Thanks for the email Tom.

Kermit the Frog Sings LCD Soundsystem

The track's called New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down, and it's arguably LCD Soundsystem's best song lyrically. Looks like James Murphy's into Kermit as much as you and I are.

Music Video Update: Joseph, Better You Than Me or, The Killers' Christmas

The Killers have just released their third Christmas song in three years, titled Joseph, Better You Than Me. They worked with Elton John and Neil Tennant (of Pet Shop Boys) on the track, and made the music video out of clips from some old religious film. MP3 after the jump.

You can remix the song in any way you like, either by adding your own beats and instrumentation, or just remixing the original parts. Don't just sit there, start remixing! You've got 'till January first!

My Body Is A Cage in a Brad Pitt Flick

In case you haven't heard, there's a new Cate Blanchett/Brad Pitt flick coming out on Christmas day entitled The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It's about a man (Brad) living his life backwards, as he grows younger and younger with each passing day. I'm just looking forward to seeing how it'll end. Anywho, I found this trailer for the movie with Arcade Fire's Neon Bible hit, My Body Is A Cage. The song's fantastic, and the movie looks so too.

The Bumblebeez's 30/30

The australian club group The Bumblebeez, are going to (attempt) to write and release 30 tracks in the next 30 days. Has something like this ever been done before? Is it even possible? Well, probably not, but for a group as crazy as The Bumblebeez, they might just pull it off. From this day forth, for the rest of December, The Bumblebeez will be posting a new track every day on their website. I can't wait to see how this goes.

Cool Tunes Tuesday: The Ting Tings

I've been finding a lot of awesome tracks lately that I thought might be kind of cool to share with you. Every Tuesday's cool tunes Tuesday, which means I'll be putting up some remixes, covers, mash-ups, or what have you, up for free download. Every new tuesday means a new artist, so for this tuesday, I've got four tracks by The Ting Tings. The first track's from when the Ting Tings played Happy Birthday on a kids show called Yo Gabba Gabba. It's actually the original version from the one in that 80's movie, Sixteen Candles. The second track's an extremely rare acoustic version of one of The Ting Tings biggest hits, Great DJ. The third track's the LA Riots Remix of That's Not My Name, and the fourth is Be The One (Japanese Popstars Remix).

DOWNLOAD

And here's the vid for The Ting Ting's That's Not My Name (Yo Gabba Gabba Remix). Gee, they sure love that TV show. They also made a music video for Shut Up and Let Me Go (Yo Gabba Gabba Remix), but I didn't post it because it's even more weird than this one. yeah.
